Frequently asked questions

Is the aux box completed in the shop?

Yes! When your aux box comes to you as 1 piece, you can technically move your furniture in on the day that it is placed on the foundation. We have even delivered aux boxes with furniture in them for clients.

This is the most misunderstood or unbelieved answer we give. Maybe this is because what we do is not common in the modular industry?

How is an aux box delivered?

Your aux box arrives by truck and flat deck trailer. It is then craned from the trailer and onto your foundation.

Is a building permit required?

Generally, yes…if you play by the rules. If you are on Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands, we can handle the building permit for you. If you are outside of this area, we will supply support.

Our smaller office models often don’t require a building permit.

What are the requirements for my site?

The short answer: You need enough space for the aux box, and you need a space for a crane to park within 80’ of your foundation. Typically, the larger the aux box, the shorter the reach capacity for the crane.

Don’t worry, we will assess and approve your property before we ever sell you a structure.

How do I prepare my site?

We can prepare your site, or you can (with our guidance), or you can hire a contractor. We will guide you through the process. The bare minimum site requirement is to prepare the landing spot for your aux box and to run electrical from your house to the landing spot.

How long does it take?

Roughly 12-18 weeks from purchase contract to delivery, depending on the model you choose, our production schedule and the permitting requirements. Smaller models can have shorter lead times. Larger models can have longer lead times.

How big is an aux box?

It depends on which model you choose. We have offerings from 97 - 620 sq ft. Check our models page for more details.

Can I customize my aux box?

Yes! We have a number of choices for you to make for your unit. Choose your layout orientation, the interior colour scheme, and select materials. We will also listen to additional “outside the box” customization requests.

Are aux boxes CSA approved ?

Yes, we build our Model 240, & Model 300 in compliance with CSA Z240 standards & the Model 620 in compliance with CSA A277.

How do I set up utilities for my aux box?

The electrical hook-up must be performed by a certified electrical contractor. The electrical site work is permitted by the local electrical authorities. If your unit has water, the plumbing will also need to be set up by a certified professional.

Can I heat/cool my unit?

Yes! We offer a mini-split AC/heat pump as an optional upgrade to your unit.

Models 300 & smaller come standard with an infrared heating panel on the ceiling. Bathrooms come standard with in-floor heat. The Model 620 comes standard with 2 mini-spilt AC/heat pumps.

How does payment work?

Depending on the project scope, we have a few payment processes. Generally, a 50% installment by wire transfer, cheque or bank draft is required to begin your project. A 20% payment is due at lock-up. A 20% payment is due before shipment of your aux box. The final 10% is collected once the unit is installed to your satisfaction.

For pre-project expenses, we collect payment by credit card on the purchase page, or by E-transfer or wire-transfer.

For Change Orders, we collect payment by E-transfer or wire transfer at the time of the change order approval.

Installment and financing options may be available and can be discussed on a project basis.
